2018 GA Phantom 7.8, 2015 iSonic 107, Drake 38, Wind: 15 - 16

Underpowered most of the time. Wind was also more southerly which made it difficult to get back to the launch area. OTOH, tide was very high so no issues sailing farther into mangrove area.

2018 GA Phantom 7.1, 2015 iSonic 107, MFC KPR360 Wind 19 Knots

Good session. Sailed with Marc van Beckhoven and Bryan Leidel. Bryan is getting more comfortable sailing with his front foot in the stap on the JP85 slalom board. Marc is now way faster than I am and in better condition. I have 18 years on him, so will use that as my excuse...

The improved approach to getting into the back foot strap worked great on the 107 as well. The gybing is slowly improving. Got closer to a planing gybe today and making a high percentage of the stall gybes.

Lac Bay, Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands

2018 GA Phantom 7.8, 2017 iSonic 127 Ultra, Drake 44 Wind: 15 knots

Decent winds for this equipment. After watching a training video on YouTube I finally arrived at a way to feel comfortable getting the back foot in the straps on the big board. The training video was taken with a GoPro on the sailors chest pointing at his feet. What caught my eye was that he never tried to put his foot straight into the strap but put it in at an angle. He angled his foot at about a 45 degree angle with toes pointing back. This allowed him to have a larger opening target and then he would rotate his foot and push it into the strap. I tried this and it works like a charm. I don't have to point into the wind now as this technique can be done fast and gives a secure entry into the straps. This makes riding the 127 much more enjoyable because I now don't stress about getting the back foot in the strap.

Had a later than normal launch. Expected the wind to pick up more than it did but decent runs towards

the end of the session.

Sailed with Bryan Leidel. I'm still having issues getting the back foot in the straps on the 127 iSonic.

Opened up the foot straps, which help some.

Hit a plastic bag and got a slow-motion catapult slam when heading back from the mangroves on one

run. Fortunately no body damage but put two crack lines in the nose of the board.

Actually made a couple more jibes than Windsport Tracker  shows, see timeline.

Decently powered at the beginning. Underpowered by 1700.
Was Bryan Leidel's windsurfing support for his first couple of runs to the mangroves. He is quickly improving.
I'm trying to flip the sail sooner on jibess. Have to really concentrate on leaning forward or I stall the board.

Lac Bay, Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands

Good day. Stable wind and just right for the gear selection.  Good conditions for the gear - water pretty smooth, made for enjoyable runs.

Jeff Ward suggested that my jibes looked good (stance, etc). I just need to flip the sail a lot earlier.

Met up with Bryan Leidel. Met him on 7/22. Just learning to sail. Very excited about windsurfing. Just bought the JP85 from Taty.
